Activities of the Center

1 Law and Policy Review

The Centre publishes a biannual journal for matters related to law and policy containing in-depth scholarly articles, policy proposals, and legal analyses by law professors, judges, practitioners, and policy makers, covering a wide array of national, foreign, and international issues, cases, and laws, serving as a credible and prominent medium for substantive debate.

This not only gives our students, scholars, and lawyers an opportunity to further improve their intellectual skills and present their research to a diverse local and foreign audience, but also serves as a reliable source of information regarding law and policy developments and discourses in the country.

2 Visiting Fellows
Distinguished scholars are hosted as visiting fellows. Not only does the Centre benefit from their research, but, most importantly, the students are also exposed to latest courses and learning trends. Needless to say, this healthy influx of European and North American academics will ultimately help in promoting western quality standards at the University.

3 Conferences, Seminars, etc
Along with organizing conferences and seminars on various law and policy issues, academics, practitioners, and policy makers are invited, as guest speakers, to share their views and experiences with UMT’s faculty and students.

4 Research Projects

For certain significant areas, permanent research forums will be set up. These projects will address:

  1. Islamic Legal Studies
  2. Islamic Financial Regulation
  3. Antitrust/Competition
  4. Corporations and Securities
  5. Human Rights and Humanitarian Law
  6. Public Law
  7. Internet and Technology
  8. International and Comparative Law
  9. Gender and Law

It must be mentioned that once a research project acquires enough capability to function on its own, it will be made independent of the Centre.

5 Courses

The Center invites Pakistani and foreign professors and practitioners to offer certificate courses on different areas of law and policy. The aim is not only to enhance the skills and capabilities of Pakistani lawyers and policy makers, but also to introduce western teaching techniques and standards in the country.
